Awards Ceremonies/ Graduation Walk-up

June 28, 2009

Hi everyone!

So this past thursday our school had our end of the year awards ceremonies as well as our grad walk-up on Saturday! It was great seeing everyone on our last official day of high school. One of the highlights of that day, however, was receiving the Digital Arts award. This award is given to two students with the highest marks in the school for this course. I was so honoured to receive it along side a very talented graphics designing student.

I have been passionate about graphics designing/the digital arts ever since I was eight years old. My father, being a graphics designer, inspired and showed me many of the things I know today. He has always encouraged me to follow my dreams and receiving this award made me feel so proud!

The graduation walk-up was another exciting event.  It was a bitter-sweet night seeing the people you grew up with receive their diplomas and move on into "adulthood". I was also ecstatic to find out that I received two scholarships! They were the Bulkley Valley Arts Council, and the Dogwood District Scholarship. This truly has been an amazing year and am so excited to see what the future will bring!

All the best until next time,

Jessica

Title of Show
Read Me

Storyline
Read Me is a mystery series of a seven-teen year old girl named, Jessica, that is able to read people’s thoughts through the words they write. She uncovers her unique gift after finding an opened letter on the street. The note is nothing more than a reminder to check into the La Ciandez, one of the fanciest hotels in the city. Things change, however, when she begins to hear distant voices with each word she reads… Listening carefully, she understands that a crime has taken place.

The letter reveals that Elanore Standsford, one of the wealthiest women in the world, is checking into the La Ciandez. She has just lost millions in a bet against the hotel’s owner and is seeking revenge. She breaks into the hotel's safe and steals one of the guest's million dollar necklaces.

Realizing that she is the hotel’s only hope, Jessica must check in as a guest and fit in with her high class surroundings. She purchases new clothing from Kitchen Orange as well as a new set of jewelry from the renowned Fantasy Gemart. Knowing that it is essential she keep her true identity a secret and play off a new character, Jessica is thankful she received such great training at the Toronto Academy of Acting. This is also a very difficult case which is why it is also important that Jessica stays alert for any clues that may come her way. RedBull is an excellent way to keep her focused.

In the end, Jessica is able to trace letters and notes written by Elanore to her hotel suite in room 608. She sees Standsford slumped on a seat crying in frusteration and anger. Confronting her on the stolen jewelry, Standsford confesses to her doings and admits she got caught up in her own vengenance. Jessica now sees that Elanore always was a good person but unfortunately made bad choices. She is able to convince Standsford to turn herself in to local authoroties.

Seasons following would be in a similar format.

Selected Sponsors

> Kitchen Orange was selected as Jessica’s wardrobe for the season as it gives a classy, chique, but not over done look. It is also a line of clothing that keeps up with today’s trends in fashion, something Jessica will need to help her stay undercover.

> Fantasy Gemart is a great choice of jewelry that will be worn on “Read Me”. It is hand crafted and customizable which will not only stand out on set but also appeal to all types of viewers.

> The Toronto Academy of Acting is a great school that will be featured on the show. Not only did it help Jessica in her undercover work (portraying other characters) but will also inspire aspiring actors to take this excellent program to further their skills in the performing arts!

> RedBull is important for Jessica so she is able to stay alert for anything that could come her way It vitalizes the body and mind which allows her to perform at her utmost best in any situation she is forced to faced.

Will This Show Be a Hit?

I strongly believe this show will be successful as it is an original idea for a mystery series and will appeal to a wide variety of ages. It also has a subliminal message of using your “gifts” to help others. Though we may not have the powers as seen on "Read Me", we can still make a difference using the things we do have.

Why is the Protagonist so Young?

The reason that Jessica is set to be a seven-teen years old on "Read Me" is because I believe it's important that people, of all ages, realize the impact and difference youth can make on the world. You do not have to have a full time career or be completely graduated to prove your strengths to others. As long as you are determined and perservere, there is no age limit to your potential.

Free the Children Fundraiser

June 22, 2009

Hi everyone! So this past Saturday I had such a great time doing my Free the Children fundraiser. We started at 7:30 in the morning and went until 9:30 at night, no joke!

Free The Children is the world's largest network of children helping children through education, with more than one million youth involved in our innovative education and development programs in 45 countries. The primary goals of the organization are to free children from poverty and exploitation and free young people from the notion that they are powerless to affect positive change in the world.

My first event was selling lemonade and snacks (which were kindly donated by Martha Wertz and Bulkley Valley Whole Sale) at the local Mainstreet Fair. Unfortunately, it started raining but we were lucky to find a nice and big tent for shelter! Things started off slow in the morning but really picked up near the afternoon. It was also great seeing all of the people come by and support this great cause.

After fundraising at the booth for eight hours we packed up our things and went over to the Della Herman theatre to set up for the evenings talents how (which was my second fundraising idea). The night consisted of dance, drama, acrobatics, poi and more! It was so neat seeing how much talent can come from a small comunity! As well as performing I was also able to host the show. This was a really good experience as it allowed me to practise speaking in front of a large group of people and get over those stage nerves! :)

As it is with anything, I could not have done this without help. I'd like to thank Mcbike for lending us the tent that kept our posters and us dry :), Heartstrings for allowing us to set up our booth, Hans Saefkow and Heather Lytle for helping me put on a great show, and to everyone that came out to support the events, it was such a great day!

Mama Mia!

June 17, 2009

Hi all! It's been a bit of time since my last post as I have been very busy getting everything ready for my graduation as well as our year end dance show! Two weeks ago, however, I had a great time doing my mama mia fundraiser. The night consisted of fun events, raffle prizes and more and was a way to help support me for my trip to Toronto.

Setting up for the event was so much fun! We decorated the room full of beach themed items, and even had a big screen to play the sing along version of the movie throughout the night. One of the highlights was seeing all of the people who came to support me. I was able to speak with them too and explain everything that I have been doing.

I would truly like to thank Petra, Cornelia, and Joan for making this fundraiser possible. I could not have done it with out all of their support, creative ideas, and fun energy! It was such a great evening and appreciate everything you guys have done :)

Until next time,

Jessica

2010 Olympic ceremony audition!

June 05, 2009

Hi everyone! So these past couple of weeks, aside from preparing for the pageant, I have been auditioning to become a performer in the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Not knowing what to expect on my first audition I went into it excited...and extremely nervous. As they lined us up in numerical order, we were directed to the main gym where we were to learn choreography. As we entered the gym, we were greeted with a warm round of applause from all of the volunteers and judges, which actually helped me feel more relaxed about everything. Organizing ourselves in lines I was amazed to learn that aside from us there were almost 9000 other people auditioning! I just had to give it my all :)

The audition was such a fun experience as we were able to learn a beautiful lyrical routine from Marlise McCormick, as well as showing the judges our improvisational skills in tap. Once everything was finished, however, they called out seven dancers that they wanted to speak to, myself included! They told us that they were looking for flag bearers and wanted us to try out for a part!

A couple weeks later while at provincials I received a phone call from the casting director who said that the judges loved my performance and wanted me to try a higher level! I was so ecstatic that when I asked when my second audition was going to take place I almost didn't realize the date...It was 2 days later! Scrambling to book a flight and a place to stay, everything ended up working perfectly and I was able to perform again :) This time I felt more prepared on what to expect and had the greatest time. All I have to do now, though, is wait. All performers will be notified by the end of September. I think this would be another great opportunity like the Miss Teen Canada-World pageant as it would be a life changing experience filled with memories I will never forget.

Happy weekend everyone,

Jessica

Relay For Life

June 01, 2009

This past Saturday I had the wonderful opportunity to organize and perform for Relay for Life! Getting together numerous dance pieces (including my own) I was able to dance in front of a live audience for a good cause. Overall, the evening went great and we all had so much fun!

Relay for Life means a lot to me as at the age of eight I lost my grand-father to cancer. I was very close to him and he taught me many lessons on bravery and courage. Attending the Relay for Life Luminary Ceremony was very memorable as you were able to see just how many people have been affected by cancer. I hope that we will find a cure in the years to come.

After the ceremony we were able to hear a truly inspiring speech from a breast cancer survivor. One of the things she said that really touched me was, "God gives each of us a cup and when we let it go empty, it takes a long time to refill. If I can do it, I know you can too." Hearing her story and the things she overcame showed me how appreciative we must be in life and to always see the best in every situation.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful. -Albert Schweitzer
